A NEW YEAR’S CARD HAS ARRIVED

This hasn’t been the best year. To any of us. I am not saying this because I am a pessimist, on the contrary. I am saying this because I believe that better years are yet to come.

In the new year I wish you embraces that are not going to leave wounds on your skin but goosebumps, promises that are not going to remain dormant but become part of reality. I wish you to let go a bit more and worry a little less. Dream of someone so often and so intensely until you wake up next to that person, and if you already have someone you wake up next to, then I wish you to continue sharing the same dreams in the future.

Next year, love completely, entirely, comprehensively, recklessly, stubbornly. If you cannot love like that, then it is better not to lie to anyone that you love them, because if it is not like that, then it is nothing at all. Do not let your old burn make you live in constant fear, thinking that everything that exudes heat is fire, that if you were once cut by a lie, every tongue is knife-edged, and that, if smashed once by hitting the rock bottom, you’ll spend the lifetime in shattered pieces. And if you know already what it is like to be hurt, do not ever let yourself become the person who hurt you.

Cry whenever it gets hard. Tears are often like rain that washes away mud from the streets, clears blurred rivers and cools the seas. Once they stop falling, greyness disappears and the day becomes clearer. You should know that nowadays the world lacks most people with guts to show what they feel. We need those who can summon the strength to fly even with one clipped wing, who laugh even when their heart is barely beating. Those who carry on even when there is little reason to do so, because they do not lose faith that even a little is enough for happiness.

Shine! Not only to light your own way, but also to show others with all that light how dark they are sometimes. Shine shamelessly and relentlessly from the essence of your being. Shine so much that people start wondering how, why and whether you are sane. To make them wonder where you find motivation, which engine sets you in motion unstoppably and why you do not ask for anything in return. Be an enigma in this world of rudeness. I wish you to show, by your example, that only those that shine most radiantly can enlighten others. Because in this world of dark mazes, only the hearths built within ourselves can provide a safe haven to people scared of darkness.

Problems will still exist. But nothing can belittle them or render them meaningless the way you do when you realise they are quite often just sudden strokes of good luck disguised in unexpectedness. You’ll see how, all of a sudden, before your very eyes, they dissolve into pointlessness. I wish you to open up and learn from them. If you can learn from everything, suddenly no one or nothing is wrong.

Don’t overdo taking care of yourselves. Because only worn-out shoes have a story to tell about where they have been. Because only the burned-out have wisdom, and only the experienced know how, and it is only those who lived through noise that can appreciate silence. Don’t be scared of solitude. Because it bound more couples by mistake than Cupid did intentionally. And don’t wait to be loved, but be Love instead. And then take a seat and watch. You will witness miracles. If you doubt them, you should know that miracles in life do not happen only to those who do something wrong.
